HBA disk I/O cards vs. RAID disk I/O cards for your Home storage needs and save money.

The goal here to find out if a HBA base disk controller is better then a RAID disk I/O controller for Your IP based NAS needs while saving money.

My money is on RAID controllers for you can get some really nice cards that can do all types of RAID setup plus they can also do HBA mode or a mix of both. HBA Cards are really just RAID 0 style config at the basic level and can work well but that is about it.

Lastly I go with RAID for it is really cheap but very flexible. Nothing against HBA cards (outside of the pricing.) but speed vs. number of disks in not the only thing you want. Low overhead, better caching modes and so many other options. Hope this helps! Later!

HBA Controllers running only in HBA configure mode. Most can only do HBA mode but some can support limited RAID option setup.
