Sal and Elaine Sanchez were homeless for eight years after a series of health problems led to a spiral of financial difficulties. Sal and Elaine were among the more than half million people in the United States who are experiencing homelessness. In Silicon Valley, where Cisco is headquartered, the problem is particularly acute. In March 2018, Cisco donated $50 million to combat homelessness by creating permanent housing for the most vulnerable people, and providing services that prevent homelessness.
