Whiteboard discussion of why organizations are upgrading their local area networks. 10G ethernet on servers causes additional core network design changes that have to be taken into account.
Higher speed wireless deployment to support many new wireless devices are driving 1Gb powered ethernet at the access layer level, driving uplink speeds to be upgraded from 1G to 10G.
Both of these trends mean the core network needs to go from many 1G ports to fewer 10G ports.
