According to their website, “Arista Networks is the leader in building software-driven cloud networks for today's datacenter, cloud and campus environments.”

They have a variety of products which would take just an incredible amount of time to accurately explain and look at. I will try to look briefly at the highlights and explain as we go.

EOS

Arista’s Extensible Operating System or EOS which is at the core of their cloud networking platform uses Linux as its operating system which is both free and one of the most reliable computer ecosystems on the planet.

EOS is highly modular which allows it to be “self-healing” in that more than 100 separate processes or what they call “agents” each handle separate management functions. So each individual process can be restarted without affecting the other processes. It sounds a lot like virtualization to me. It is also programable at all layers.

Arista also provides applications that can be purchased separately such as:

1. Arista’s Data ANalyZer or DANZ provides network data to security, troubleshooting and performance management tools.

2. And their Latency/Loss ANalyZer or (LANZ) which provides access to internal network performance loads as well as packet loss and latency. Small units of data are called packets and when some don’t go where they are sent, its called packet loss. This affects video, audio and gaming the most because they rely on real-time packet processing.

3. Arista also provides Network Telemetry which provides information regarding the state of the network like Hypervisors, (Which are what creates and runs virtual machines.)

4. And Network Tracers which provide integration and diagnostics for various workload conditions.

CLOUD VISION

Another Product Arista provides is Cloud Vision, which is a turnkey software solution that helps customers move to a more automated, cloud-like structure. With CloudVision, the EOS database model is expanded network wide. It allows for simpler network-wide automation and analytics. It can be used across private, public and hybrid clouds as well as wired and wireless campuses.

COGNITIVE WiFi

Cognitive Wifi is all about providing a better Wifi experience throughout a business. It looks like a system that troubleshoots the WiFi to make it run optimally perhaps in an office building or something like that.

Arista Cognitive WiFi is 6G. The world is talking about going to 5G and Arista is doing 6G which stands for 6 GHz and is the frequency that the WiFi uses. It’s backwards compatible so you shouldn’t need new gear.

Arista is expecting larger businesses to become early adopters due to the higher initial costs and then to have it filter down to the individual as the costs come down. 6G provides higher data rates and increased capacity.

LEADERSHIP

Jayshree Ullal was VP of Marketing at Crescendo Communications when it was acquired by Cisco Systems. She then joined Cisco and eventually became Senior VP of the Data Center and left in 2008 to become President and CEO of Arista. She took the company from its IPO in 2014 to where it is today. Jayshree has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master’s in Engineering Management and was named World’s Best CEO in 2015 by Barrons.
