Literally floating in a makeshift cloud, Avaya had on display at VMworld 2012 their new Collaborative Pod which allows for the delivery of unified communications (UC) and contact center (CC) applications in a virtual environment, said Josh Gonzalez, Software Engineer for Avaya.
Interested? Here are some more points of interest from Gonzalez:
• Everything runs on virtual machines over vCenter.
• Top of the rack delivers 10 Gigabit switching.
• Media gateway allows for DSP resources and PSTN access.
• On top of vCenter you can deploy other needed management services such as utility or element management.
• Includes KVM switch and compute servers which are all the Avaya applications
• Includes Session Border Control which is a SIP firewall
• Storage running on an EMC VNX
Without having to integrate each element individually, the hope for Collaborative Pod is that it can be a complete turnkey solution for rolling out UC and CC in your enterprise. Gonzalez says from lab tests they haven't seen any difference between running these services in a virtual environment as compared to a standalone environment or proprietary hardware.
