ViPR Data Services allow you to enable new capabilities on your existing storage assets. It does this by sitting within the data path, unlike the management/automation focused ViPR controller services which are outside the data path.
ViPR Data Services include object, file and block based storage capabilities as well as some very cool replication capabilities. Well worth a look and freely available at http://www.emc.com/getvipr
