Refreshed XtremIO streamlines high-performance storage

Dell Technologies Inc.’s EMC integration expanded the company’s tools and resources, providing new opportunities to serve expanding customer needs through digital transformation. Now, the company is improving offerings by upgrading its flagship high-performance storage tool, XtremIO.

“Today we launch the new release of X2, that brings to the market the native replication capability … leveraging our architecture of cast-based architecture … [and] allowing customers to start with a lower cost platform,” said Dan Inbar (pictured), senior vice president and general manager of XtremIO at Dell EMC.

Inbar spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu) and Lisa Martin (@LuccaZara), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, at the Dell Technologies World event in Las Vegas. They discussed the refresh of XtremIO and how improvements to the system help it better serve customer needs. (* Disclosure below.)

Streamlining storage
The changes to XtremIO aim to make the system more efficient, as well as offer its enterprise capabilities at a lower cost. The tool’s unique approach to replication makes it an effective solution for customers seeking a high-end solution at a lower price point, according to Inbar.

“We’re looking at everything and fingerprinting everything, so we don’t write anything that’s already written. … It’s significantly lower on the [wide area network], much more effective, [and] … a lot more cost-effective,” Inbar said.

A more streamlined system increases flexibility, giving users greater opportunity to innovate in their digital transformations. “You can now have your … production, QA and Dev on the same platform. … If you want to now separate it … you can put it into a different environment, and you can have your whole Test and Dev environment separate,” Inbar said.

With its expanded offerings of adaptability and lower cost, the new release of XtremIO is working to elevate IT at even more businesses, Inbar pointed out. “What customers are saying is that by using this, they’ve taken away problems from the end user. He’s got all the resources he needs. … These kinds of technologies allow you to work a lot faster [and enable] a lot more reacting to what’s happening in the field,” he concluded.
