A question asked frequently among the beginners looking to get into the security is the first few steps to get started. Today, I address this question head-on... Well, kind of... The answer completely depends on the current situation you are in, let me explain further...
As I outline, everyone has their own limited scope of experience when it comes to getting into security. Sure, you can ask a professional with 20 years experience in the I.T. industry, but the information may not exactly fit your situation. This is where I prompt you, as a student, to keep one statement in mind while starting in security:
Spark an Interest, Build a Structure.
I believe having these two traits while starting out in the security industry will establish and maintain a condensed and focused learning format. Sparking an interest means building identifying areas within the security industry you may be interested in. After identifying these, dive deeper in the topic by reading and learning. Building a structure pertains to keeping an overall format you can follow. Instead of jumping from one course to another, identifying and building an overall structure / outline will help you execute on your goals.
I also mention to more ideas to keep in mind while "Sparking an interest, building a structure"
1) Focus on the fundamentals as a novice within the industry
2) Implement a consistent effort & investment
I hope this can help you gain clarity as you begin within the industry!
